Nature's Ballroom
A lot of the influence for this scene comes from Naughty dog’s The Last of Us and Lucky Pause’s Homesick titles respectively. Furthermore, outside of video games areas such as Chernobyl were influential in that they convey a sense of nature reclaiming what belongs to it. The overall theme of the project was to project a sense of abandonment and yet rebirth by nature. This was something that particularly served the colour palette of the final piece as many of the civilised world assets contained desaturated values. Whereas on the other hand the nature and botanical aspects were much more saturated creating contrast in the piece. To this point the stark contrast and dilapidated objects in the scene tell the story and give the environment character that the influential material conveys itself to a viewer. This theme and setting was ultimately chosen to diversify a current portfolio of work. The current pieces are heavily contrasting and use lots of orange tones. Thus the inclusion of a piece using a varied colour palette was something that drove the project. As a centrepiece to the project a Grand Piano was chosen to reflect the retaking of the land by nature. The Grand Piano is an object that is seen as expertly crafted and beautiful and thus beating it up and seeing it run down is something that is easily observed. Furthermore, the inclusion of Georgian architecture seemed to fit the grandiose nature of the setting. Whilst features such as large lattice doors and sash windows are included mainly for the aspect of lighting. Below are a few images that visually display the aforementioned theme.
